CSI Cochin Diocese (Former North Kerala Diocese)

After a long discussion in the diocese and the synod level, the CSI North Kerala Diocese was bifurcated into two dioceses as CSI Cochin Diocese and CSI Malabar Diocese. Cochin diocese became as a diocese on the September 2015 and it remained as the mother diocese. So, this CSI diocese named as CSI Cochin Diocese and it is the former CSI NKD. The former diocesan office of the CSI NKD continues as the Diocesan office of the CSI Cochin diocese. We have 42 Pastors, 22 Evangelists, 5 Missionaries and 1 Sister. The present bishop of Cochin Dioceses is Rt. Rev. B. N. Fenn, who was the last bishop of CSI North Kerala Diocese before the bifurcation.

The Geographical area of CSI Cochin Diocese comprises of four districts of Kerala; they are Palakkad, Trichur, Ernakulam and Munnar area of Idukki Districts. After three years of formation, CSI Immanuel Church was dedicated as the Cathedral on 7th May 2017 by the Most Rev. Thomas K. Oommen (Moderator, CSI).

The traditions of the CSI Cochin diocese include CMS and Basel Evangelical Mission. We have few historically significant churches like St. Francis CSI Church, Fort Cochin; All Saints Church, Trichur; St Paul’s Church, Kunnamkulam; Holy Trinity Church, Palakkad; and Christ Church, Munnar. St. Francis Church in Fort Cochin is an important Tourist Place in the Cochin Area. It was a happy moment that Mysore Holy Trinity Church added to the diocese.

Sabahamithram Magazine

CSI Cochin Sabhamitram (Formerly NSI NKD) is the official magazine of the Diocese. It is also the continuation of the UttharaKerala Sabhamithram. This magazine was closed with the last edition on August 2015. The ‘Cochin Sabhamithram’ was stared from the September 2015 issue. It has been publishing articles by the experts and the resource persons mainly from the Diocese.

“Divine Chorals”- A Vibrant Musical Evening by the CSI Cochin Diocese

It was an evening of awesome singing and a pleasant delight to the ears of nearly 800 Choristers, Musicians and Music Lovers who all gathered at CSI Ascension Church, Kakkanad, an outskirt city of Cochin, Kerala. The Choir Fest 2018 of CSI Cochin Diocese – ‘Divine Chorals’, the third Choir Fest of the Diocese, was held on Sunday, 21st January 2018 at the Ascension Church. Prior to the musical bonanza, a short worship service was conducted with Adoration of Trinity and a Rededication Prayer joined by all the Choristers present. There were 19 Choir Groups who came from the various Districts of the CSI Cochin Diocese, covering Palghat to Idukki.

The event was inaugurated by Rt. Rev. B. N. Fenn, Bishop in CSI Cochin Diocese by Lighting the Lamp followed by a meaningful Inaugural Address. In his Inaugural Address, Bishop Fenn said, “When the melody and rhythm of the world work together to praise the Lord, the world will be filled with blessings”. All the Diocesan Officials and several Vicars & Church Workers of the Diocese were present for the function. The 19 Choir Groups sang 38 melodious songs, some in English and some in Malayalam. The age group of the choristers ranged from as low as 5 Years to as high as 77 years!  The choirs were given trophies and also certificates to each member of the choir to appreciate the hard work they put in.

Kakkanad, being the Information Technology (IT) Hub of Kerala, the Ascension Church is blessed with the membership of several IT specialists. Thanks to this aspect, maximum leverage on Technology was adopted in planning and executing the whole event. A dedicated team of Church members under the leadership of Rev Varghese P Joseph, Vicar of CSI Ascension Church, Kakkanad as the Convener and Mr. Vinod Robert, Secretary of the Church as the Coordinator of Choir Fest had several sessions of Prayer, Brain Storming and Planning, in organizing the event. With the abundant blessings from our Lord and the efforts put in by the team, the whole event was conducted in a speckless manner. The feedback on the function received was with several positive adjectives like, “Wonderful, Awesome, Incredible….”

Our Lord made it possible, all Glory to our Lord.
